John Fitzgerald – Founder & Managing Director
John’s company Harmonics partner with leading corporate clients such as O2, Musgrave, Superquinn, Jacob Fruitfield, Danone, Tyco, Premier Foods, Mercer and Carphone Warehouse when they need to make people redundant. He has written “Managing Your own Career” and “Self Marketing for Success” which are used by participants on Harmonics ‘Career Transition Programmes’. John was co-founder of the Association for Coaching in Ireland in 2006 and was Head of Communications until last year. He has recently become a global ambassador for The Institute of Career Certification International. John has facilitated hundreds of career and business coaching workshops and has coached over 300 hundred Managers and professionals through career change in the last 10 years when they were faced with redundancy or unemployment. John started working life after school as a retail assistant in the Menswear Department in Roches Stores Limerick. He emigrated to the states in the 80’s exodus of young people from Ireland and has spent most of his life in the sales and marketing field. He also went back to college to study business by night in UL. He has also been unemployed and knows what that feels like. John is a passionate public speaker and his work on career change is regularly featured in the media and he has contributed to The Tubridy Show, The Pat Kenny Show, Matt Cooper and Gareth O Callaghan. He has also featured as The Career Coach on The Afternoon Show’s Career Clinic series last year. John has just finished filming an observational documentary series where he career coaches 6 unemployed people over a six month period. The programme “Rising after Redundancy” will air on the 16th of May 2010 and will be shown on RTE One as a 6 week series. John feels this programme will show the viewing Irish public, there is hope after redundancy but that career change is not an instant quick fix and needs huge determination. John has recently been commissioned to write his forthcoming book on career change which will be published by Blackwater Press in October 2010. His work has consistently shown him that each individual has the ability and talent to change career direction following redundancy but few have the self belief. John’s view is that for Ireland to recover we all have to develop a ‘self employed mindset’ and become leaders of our own career direction whatever the circumstances to build new career and financial futures. |
